How Many Cows? Print

Originally painted by Bria Hammock on an oak barrel head from Pine Bluffs Distilling, **How Many Cows?** is inspired by a cowboy poem of the same name. Three cattle stack almost impossibly into the frame, turning a familiar Western subject into something playful, graphic and a little strange.

Deep blues, greens and purples are broken up with pale horns, ochre and flashes of orange, while the stripped-back background keeps all the attention on the animals. It feels like a visual question with no real need for an answer, which is kind of the fun of it. The original seams, grain and texture of the oak barrel remain visible in the print, adding to the character of the piece and keeping part of the original surface in the story.
