Hay Scene // Bria Hammock Original

Painted by Bria on an oak barrel head from Pine Bluffs Distilling, Hay Scene is inspired by Wallace McRae’s cowboy poem of the same name. Three figures stand in the field beneath a bold orange sun, surrounded by loose blocks of color that feel like hay, dust, weather, and noise all moving through the same moment.

It’s bright and playful at first glance, but there’s still room to wonder what’s actually unfolding. Are they working, waiting, taking a break, or caught somewhere in the middle of a story we walked up on too late? Like the poem, the piece leaves the scene open enough for the viewer to fill in the rest.
